Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's death, the Ford family was taken care of by her mom, grandmother and godparents. In her childhood Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford started acting in her teen years and joined part of the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she was a poor for the school. Ford was then able to apply for a spot in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. She already made a TV appearance in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Alongside her usual stage work, Tate was a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed due to her stand-up comedy in the year 1996.
